Both your official US Congress website and US Congresswoman Hirono’s website are not functional.
As a (Territory of) Hawai`i born voter and taxpayer I am extremely concerned that this is the only way I can reach either of you during these troubling financial times.
I DO NOT Believe that the US Taxpayer (including myself) should Bail-out anyone or company without requiring them to repay it.
This goes for those Americans who took out loans they could not pay or ran up their credit cards to the point that they can not pay their bills.
I’ve worked hard all my life.
I worked two to three jobs to put myself thru the University of California.
My husband and I have worked 40 to 60 hour work weeks to provide our children with a proper education including college.
We pay our bills. We pay our mortgage. We pay our taxes.
WE ARE TIRED OF SUPPORTING THOSE WHO DON’T!!!
We do not have an issue helping those who can not take care of themselves BUT the current programs – especially those in Hawai`i – Pay People Who CAN WORK NOT TO WORK!!!
The government gives out our hard earned tax dollars to individuals without requiring them to work for it, pay it back or even qualify for it.
Now you want to include those whose greed exceeded their ability to pay for it – both companies and individuals.
Stupidity or Ignorance is no excuse and should not be rewarded.
We would like a lower interest rate on our mortgage, reduced principle, etc.
We should not be penalized because we are responsible individuals.
If those who can’t afford their mortgages get to refinance with lower rates and/or principles then those who haven’t defaulted should get the same option.
I am tired of living in a country where there are three classes:
1. Government Officials – ie Congress and Appointed Officials.
2. The poor & “so-called” poor – ie welfare recipients – especially those who can work but don’t
3. Those of us who work hard to pay for the above.
Bottom line: For once do something to assist those individuals who work hard, pay their bills and their taxes.
The True Middle Class – the ones Congress keeps taxing to pay for everyone else.
Pretty soon – like all resources – Congress will deplete the True Middle Class and then who will pay?
BTW: I love how Congress is so concerned with our retirement plans. If Congress was really concerned then they would allow all those who work for a living to have the same retirement benefits they receive. Congress does not have to depend on Social Security for retirement. Unfortunately too few Americans are aware of this, because if they were I doubt they would stand by while Congress continues to weaken Social Security benefits while raising our employee & employer contributions.
